Installation ============ This version is a complete re-issue of Rockbox. Install by unzipping all the files into the root or top level directory of your Archos, preserving the directory structure in the zip file. Follow the normal procedure for flashing, if required. Changes From Version 2.5 ======================== This version of 2.5.1 is a private version. As a result, it is not internationalised completely. The changed display parts are in English only. Bookmarking ----------- Extra information is shown in the Bookmark screen. The format is given by this example:- Bookmark 1/30 (scrolling directory name with playlist name if playlist) (scrolling file name) Index: 1 Time : 0:00:00 Play - Select On+Play - Delete >> - Delete & Play (>> is Right key) The ">>" option is useful for keeping the bookmark file tidy as you play a file. (This option is not available for the Player). If a bookmark is deleted a "Deleted" splash screen is shown. If the "Unique Only" option is set and an added bookmark causes an old one to be deleted, the splash screen says "Bookmark Replaced". The option "Follow Playlist" is now actioned correctly when resuming from a bookmark. Also the current directory is now loaded at the same time, so that switching to the browser from the WPS should not involve an extra disk spinup for that Directory. The old Up and Down has been found to be counter-intuitive so this build has Down & Up reversed so that Down goes down the list (newest to oldest) and Up goes up. The old format of the Bookmark file uses ";" for field delimiters. As file names and directory names could contain this character, bookmarking could fail. The delimiter has been changed to ":" in this build to cure this. The name of the most recent bookmark file has been changed so that if you boot to different builds you won't loose your bookmarks. (It's now "mostly_recent.bmark") The old bookmarks will not be carried over to the new version unless you edit the bookmark file(s), changing the ";" delimeters to ":", and the name of the Most Recent Bookmark file if necessary. The maximum number of bookmarks in a file is increased from 10 to 100. If you use voiced folders and/or files, they will only be voiced correctly in the Bookmark screen if you generate them using similar Lame parameters that were used to generate the "(language).voice" file. Currently these Lame parameters are "-V 4 -B 64 --resample 12 --scale 0.6 --vbr-new -t -S". See the VoiceBox Read_Me_Please.txt file for details of how to change the Lame parameters. Use of the existing Lame parameters will cause the MAS MP3 decoder chip to hiccup at the start of talking the file or folder name and lose a syllable or two from the start of the name. The "VoiceBox2.5.1.zip" file on the wiki page has these changes built in, and may be used to regenerate compatible directory and file ".talk" files. F2 & F3 Menus ------------- On the F2 menu the right and left menu items have been swapped to improve readability. The F3 menu has been changed to:- Left - Upside Down Right - Show Status Bar Down/PLAY - Decrease/Increase Stereo Effect in 5% increments The F2 and F3 menu keys act as follows:- short press - stay in the F2/F3 screen on release, press F2/F3/Off to exit. long press - exit screen on release. The F2 and F3 menus are now voiced if the "Voicing Menus" option is on. The voicing order is left, bottom, right. The format of the F2 and F3 screens now dynamically adjusts so as to display as much text as possible, to accomodate the long words of some languages. The F2 and F3 screens, Status Bar, and Pitch Change screens now display in the user's font unless the font is too large. Batteries & Charging -------------------- The improved charging algorithm submitted as patch 2927 by "jock765" has been retro-fitted to this version of RockBox. Batteries are charged properly now. (This patch was applied to the CVS on 4th March 2006.) When charging, the battery indicator now shows more information:- If the battery icon changes between 0, 33, and 66% then it's on maximum charge. If the battery icon changes between 33, 66, and 100% then it's on top-up charge. After cycling once as above, the icon shows the current charge state of the battery for two seconds. If the battery shows steady 100% then it's on trickle charge. The red led is illuminated when charging has switched to trickle charge to give a quick visual indication that charging is near completion. The led will switch off after the next disk access. During the first minute after Rockbox starts up, the battery level indicator will now adjust to show the correct charge level of the batteries more quickly. Other Changes ------------- Button de-bouncing has been improved to reduce the possibility of false button reads being detected. The Rockbox version number is now voiced. The Mute option which was removed by the developers some time ago has been added back. This is activated by pressing F1 + PLAY when in the WPS. The action of the "Fade On Stop/Pause" option has less silent time, and is accordingly more snappy. There is now a quick exit from the lower levels of the menu system. To rapidly exit the menu system, press and hold the F1 key (MENU for Player). Note that any changed items should still be confirmed by pressing the PLAY or "<<" key first. The Status screen layout has been improved (in the opinion of the author). Some display items on screens have been tidied up.
